Goal Keeper Saving Techniques
Shot stopping is probably the most important ability for a Football Goalie to have. If you want to become a Good Football Goalie you will defiantly have to work on your saving technique. This article contains 3 helpful tips to use next time you have some Football balls flying at your face.
1) Dive with the Top Hand.
When diving for the Football ball that is high, you should always reach with your top hand. If the ball is going to your right it would be your left hand, if the ball is going your left it would be your right hand. Doing so allows you to get more of your body behind the ball and will keep your hand firm. This will give you a better chance to push the ball out of your goal rather than having your fingers crumble under the pressure of the Football ball.
2) Explode Away from your goal.
Many times during the game you may encounter a hard shot from the opposition that you are unable to catch. Although, you can’t catch the ball, it doesn’t mean you can see the ball out of trouble. Use both hands to push the
ball away from your goal in an “exploding” motion. Hold your hands firm and explode the ball away from your goal.
3) Push the Ball out of trouble.
It’s not enough to simple stop the ball. If you can’t get a hold on the ball you need to push it out of trouble and make sure you don’t leave an easy rebound for the opposition. Although, your first priority is the stop the shot, you need to always be thinking where are you pushing the ball to. Ideally you want to get the ball as far away from your goal as possible. If you can’t punch the ball clear, you may want to think about pushing it out of bounds, or to a teammate.
Try to implement these Football goalie tips into your game and you will soon be on your way to becoming a better Football goalie. However, you need to remember that your saving technique is not going to come naturally it is going to take practice, practice, oh and some more practice.
